Artifact #15
Descriptors: Video Technology, Mood Piece
Title: Surprise! You Get to Experience Our Mood!
Course: 105 Video Technology
Date Created: March 26, 2003
Source: Downloaded videos from the Internet, personal video clips, and MP3 song from the Internet
Media: Video Wave, Internet, web site building software, and Photoshop
Description: This assignment was designed to incorporate group work. We worked in groups of three. One member being the producer, one being the sound director, and one being the storyboard and web site producer. The group had to pick a mood to build a video over, add sound, and present it in a format to share with the class. Every member of the group had to contribute clips to the video. The video also had to only be 1 minute long.
Rationale: In this project, I gained more knowledge about different video and sound extensions and how they work and how to use them. I picked this piece to artifact because I really enjoyed the work. I learned so much about the video process. But most of all, this assignment was so much fun and I loved watching it grow as we added our group parts.
Implications for future: . Since doing this assignment, I have started incorporating video usage in my web class. This type of group assignment is great for the beginning of teaching video. I realize that the more I do with my students on video, the more I am learning about video usage and constuction. I realized that I was only beginning to learn all about video. This assignment was just the beginning of many projects and blood, sweat, and tears.
Reviewer's Comments:NO SURPRISE! I LAUGHED OUTLOUD.
Great selection of clips to establish the mood (where did you find some of them?)
The music supports mood and reiterates what the clips show!

Title: YMCA
Course: 105A Video Technology
Date Created: April 14, 2003
Source: Music and group picture from "The Village People" found on the Internet. Video clips and still photos taken personally of my son and student volunteers.
Media: Used Video Wave, Photoshop, GoLive, digital video camcorder, and digital camera
Description: Build a web site promoting a song and the group who sings it. A self-made 2 minute video was to be made to go with the song on the web site. The following requirements were required for the video:
- Demonstrate the correct usage of basic camera techniques
- Demonstrate the correct usage of audio and editing techniques
- Demonstrate the correct usage of the knowledge in composition
- Produce a windows media streaming file and its correct usage
Rationale: I chose this assignment because frankly....I had to prove to myself and to all that I can work with video and its components. Putting this in my portfolio sets it out there to be critiqued. Also, since I gained so much knowledge on the video topic, I wanted to show all that I learned!
Implications for future: I still have lots of room for learning more about video and how to build and use it and all of its components. I have found several uses for my skills since I took the course. I know I will find many more. After this course, I watch movies, commercials, and TV differently. I find new ideas and have become more critical on what is produced. This will be useful on movies that make me cry. I can leave the story and watch for all the video aspects. Very handy....
Reviewer's Comments I LOVE THIS! I think you demonstrated the various skills - pan, zoom, movement, focus, etc. Cut! and yes, it does make you want to move!
