Description: In this group assignment from the Video Technology
course, we were to create a one-minute clip with sound that would
create a mood. Viewers are supposed to be able to determine the
mood of the piece by its content rather than by title. Each member
of the group took one of the three roles necessary to produce this
clip: producer/editor, storyboard/script artist, and sound editor.
Each member was also to contribute a video clip that would support
the mood we chose. After getting each submission, the storyboard/script
artist arranged the scenes. It was then sent to the producer/editor
who put all the video clips together according to the storyboard/script.
The sound editor was responsible for the sound effects or in this
case, the MP3 clip. The producer/editor then added the sound track
and produced the video in a windows media streaming video format.
Rationale: This artifact is an excellent activity in which
teamwork is required to create a final product. In the real world,
students will operate in team situations far more frequently than
locked away in a cubicle somewhere. Success of the individual is
often predicated on success of the team, and there is no better
place to begin to inculcate that concept than in the classroom.
Implications for future: The concept of teamwork is (or
should be) relevant in all academic areas, because of its prevalence
in the "real world." Students learn that, sometimes, in
order for a product to be completed, they need to learn to depend
on others as well as be depended upon.
Reviewer's Comments: This is too funny! I needed a laugh
about now. Super job with the various clips supporting the mood
of surprise! The audio was great at supporting the mood and going
along with the clips. My husband happened to walk by as the yorkie
blew up and had to stop and watch too! . . . Good work!
